Uninsured cancer patient in Florida needs care

Where can I go for treatment in Florida for cancer?  I cannot get health insurance, now that I have breast cancer.

Sunshine State Survivor

Dear  Sunshine State Survivor,

For info about low-cost, free or sliding-scale clinics, visit Health Resources Service Administration’s website and enter your zip code.

Since you have breast cancer, you should also look into Florida’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Programs (BCCPT) through Medicaid.  You can qualify for this if your income is low, though the program allows higher incomes than Medicaid itself.

As of January 1, 2014, you will be able to buy health insurance.  Insurers will not be able to turn you away because of your cancer diagnosis.  You may also qualify for help in paying for your coverage, depending upon your income.

Good luck and best wishes for your successful treatment.
