Test for toxins might be covered

What toxins can I get a blood test for, that health insurance will cover?  I know that lead is usually covered, but what else?

Chem-Free

Dear Chem-Free,

As long as the test is medically necessary, it would generally be covered by health insurance.  The test would need to be related to symptoms you were having, or be a screening for potential illness, such as high cholesterol.

The other factor would be that the test would have to be done by a covered provider.  The provider isn’t necessarily on the plan’s “network”, but would need to be a licensed physician, nurse, etc.  So for example, a Chinese medicine healer performing the test would not be covered.
